To diet or not to diet…
This is not like my usual posts. Even I am asking myself “Rachel why are you doing this? A sponsored diet series? Really?” Yes, really. Like a lot of people in the world I have a love/dislike relationship with my body and with food. When I was young of course I was not concerned with my body or weight. I was young! Haha! My metabolism was fantastic. I could eat a tub of ice cream and never gain a pound. Now, not so much. Haha! After 2 kids and all the weight gain/loss that has come with it my body has changed and I have gained weight. Before kids I weighed 140lbs. Now I weigh 175lbs. On my body frame this is a huge difference.
It’s time for a change though
I don’t necessarily want to go back to my pre-baby weight, but I would like to lose some weight and be healthier. (Self-care is more than just manicures or massages.) When I was presented with the chance to try out and receive an advance copy of a new diet book I took it. What new book was that? Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion.
While some parts of the diet didn’t really speak to me I felt I needed some help and accountability. Also, I was intrigued by the concept of eating more at night. (I am a sucker for late-night eating because my kids don’t interrupt me or take my food.) It was actually the following quote that helped to make up my mind to try the diet.
“Based on surprising science, Always Eat After 7 PM debunks popular diet myths and offers an easy-to-follow diet that accelerates fat-burning and allows you to indulge in your most intense food cravings: Eating the majority of your calories at night.”

See I told you I like to eat at night. Haha! So, over the next 4 weeks, I will be sharing my weight loss journey and my thoughts about the diet with you. But, what is the diet?
“Always Eat After 7 PM” Diet Basics
In his book “Always Eat After 7 PM”, Joel Marion describes the diet as follows:
“The Always Eat After 7 PM plan consists of: The 14-day Acceleration Phase to kick-start the program and see rapid results, The Main Phase where you’ll learn exactly which foods to eat when in order to achieve your weight-loss goals, and The Lifestyle Phase to keep the weight off for good.”
Ok, so how does the diet work? How do you do it? Here’s the gist of the diet. (From my understanding after reading the book.) Parts of the diet consist of eating healthier, staying within a certain daily calorie range, and eating certain foods at certain times. The biggest part though is utilizing intermittent fasting or IF.
What is IF?
“Going without breakfast is part of intermittent fasting (IF), also called time-restricted feeding (TRF). IF is a pattern of food consumption that cycles between fasting and eating in specific time periods. There are various ways to do it; one of the most common is the 16/8 protocol, which involves 16 hours of fasting—typically done overnight—with an 8-hour window in which to eat each day.”

For me, IF will not be eating from 6 PM – 10 AM. BUT! On the “Always Eat After 7 PM” diet you can eat certain foods after 6 PM, and you can drink/eat certain things before 10 AM. For myself personally, if I am hungry after 6 PM I plan on snacking on some greek yogurt with fruit, or before 10 AM I will drink my coffee. (Got to have the coffee!) Not the latte’s I love and drink every day, but coffee with a splash of oat milk. (It’s supposed to be black coffee, but I have to wean myself there. Haha!) If I were to be really hungry before 10 AM I would have the option to eat some foods, like eggs and other items.

It’s time for me to make a change
It seriously is. Hopefully, you will stick around with me through the next 4 weeks. Like many I am not looking for just 4 weeks of dieting and then going back to my regular habits. I want a lifestyle change. So here’s to not just losing weight but to healthier living! If you have any questions or comments ask away in the comment section below.
