Product Review – EzPz Mini Mat
Disclosure: This post is sponsored. I did receive a free EzPz Mini Mat in exchange for my review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I would never recommend a product that either I or my family did not like.
Food Fight
As a new parent, I was so proud when my daughter started eating solids and eventually showing interest in using a plate and utensils. What I wasn’t too fond of, but of course it was adorable, was when my daughter would take her plate and dump it upside down so all the food would run or fly off. To her, it was so much fun to dump her plate and feed the dogs her dinner. (Not fun for mom or dad who had to clean up or take care of said gassy dogs. haha!)
When we went out for dinner, knowing are daughter would just dump her plate, we would try to clean the restaurant table as much as we could and just place her food on the table. Truly though I was not a big fan of this. I also wasn’t a big fan of using disposable plastic placemats. (Imagine how many disposable plastic placemats are going into the garbage and sitting in landfills.) I wanted to find a reusable solution that would work and was easy to transport. I then found the EzPz Mini Mat, and we have been using it ever since. (Now through two kids!)
What is The EzPz Mini Mat?
The EzPz mat is a plate and a placemat combined that suctions to the table so that it becomes harder for your child to pick it up and dump their food. Here are the real questions though…
My Questions
What is it made of, and is it safe for my child to eat off of? The EzPz mats are very safe for your child to eat off of. Per the EzPz website they are “100% food-grade silicone that is BPA, BPS, PVC, latex, and phthalate-free.” The back of the mat states they are also dishwasher and microwave safe. (Our’s has been in the dishwasher multiple times, but I have not microwaved it.) I have not encountered any food staining on our grey mini mat either. I have served tacos and spaghetti in the mini mat, washed it, and the mat has come out looking new each time. They do have a coral color if you are concerned with red food staining.
Do They Work?
Yes, and sometimes maybe. For the most part, the mat does work and stays on the table you have suctioned it to. It will move on the table so it is possible for a child to move it off of the table. A child can also grab at the edge and peel it up. It will not come off the table if a child grabs at the eyes or mouth edges. It also makes a difference in how clean the bottom of the mat is and also how clean the surface you want to suction it to is. We started using our mini mat over 2 years ago when our oldest daughter was a little over a year old, and we currently use it with our second daughter. (Both at home attached to the high chair tray, and also out at restaurants on tables and we have had great success.)
Are They Worth It?
In my opinion, yes. The cost of an EzPz mini mat is $19.99. The cost for disposable placemats on Amazon is around $15.00 for 50 to 60 mats. With the disposable mats once you run out you have to purchase more. With an EzPz mat, you could purchase one and be done. To me, that is a great investment. The EzPz mini mat also fits perfectly in a diaper bag for easy travel. The mini mat comes with its own cover sleeve so all you have to do is take it out, use it, wipe it down a bit, put it back in its sleeve, and then wash it fully when you get home.
Other Perks of The EzPz Mats
While you can make faces with food on a regular plate, I have to admit it’s not as fun. For those of us, parents who are not as artistic EzPz mats make it a little bit easier. Children learn so much about food and their family while eating, and making food faces for and with your children encourages this discovery. When I put the EzPz mat on my daughter’s high chair with an oatmeal and banana face she gets so excited and is a happy camper the whole breakfast. 🙂
Other Products
EzPz also has bigger happy mats, happy bowls, micro happy mats, and a flower happy play mat for use while crafting. They have come out with different colors and faces. (They now have Care Bears and Sesame Street!) You can read more about the EzPz company and their products/journey HERE.
If you have plate throwers in your house, I hope you take a moment to look into an EzPz happy mat. It is an awesome reusable dining mat that is great for all ages. I do not regret purchasing one and I believe you won’t either. Are you also a lover of small businesses? Check out my blog post on why I switched and now try to shop small when I can. HERE
We like ours! I have two minis and the bowl. The bowl doesn’t quite fit on the #basic white IKEA high chair and I am thinking of cutting it. THE HORROR. I’m scared though. I don’t want to ruin it, and it works nicely on her small table.
If you are in need of another mini I have a giveaway currently on Pretty in Baby Food’s facebook page for a EzPz Mini Mat. 🙂 If you do cut it let me know how it goes. Haha! We switched as well to the Mini because the regular Happy Mat did not fit on her high chair.
Thanks for the tip– headed over to enter. Also, a cut is imminent, so I’ll be sure to report back!
