Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Review
How much did I like the new Sonic movie?
I loved the new Sonic The Hedgehog movie. Haha! It is the perfect family movie and exceeded all of our expectations. My daughter has said Sonic: “Is the best movie ever!”. It has nostalgia, action, and some jokes for the parents, and a super cute hero, and funny jokes for the kids. The casting for all of the characters is spot on. Jim Carrey was amazing as Dr. Robotnik, and I actually cannot think of anyone else who could have played the character. My 4-year-old had her eyes glued to the big screen, and she was cheering for Sonic (Ben Schwartz) through the whole movie. Tom (James Marsden) had me rolling with laughter and personally, I feel he had one of the funniest lines/jokes in the movie. Haha!
I also loved that Sonic The Hedgehog is a great example of a movie that not only entertains but teaches at the same time. It sparked conversations about bullying from my daughter. My daughter wanted to know why Dr. Robotnik was being so rude and mean to those around him, and especially to Sonic. It gave me a chance to explain to her some of the reasons people become bullies, and ways to be able to deal with them.
Finally, I am so happy Paramount Pictures changed the look of Sonic because I am not sure it would have been as good if they kept it. (I am still on the fence if it was a marketing ploy or not. If it was it worked, and if it wasn’t it still worked. Haha!) I highly recommend seeing Sonic The Hedgehog whether you take the kids or not.
My Rating
Sonic The Hedgehog is by far the best video game adaption movie out there for families. I give it an A-. There are some parts of the movie that parents may want to know about though. Parts of the movie do have violence and action. (Explosions, people punching people, fights, etc.) As for cussing there really isn’t any because most get halfway through saying the word or phrase and then stop. There are some jokes parents will get and find funny, but kids may not understand. There is one part in the movie, where Dr. Robotnik is jamming out to music in his lair, which might be slightly scary for young viewers. (My daughter’s eyes got really wide during that scene and she grabbed my hand.)
Does Sonic The Hedgehog have any end credit scenes?
Yes! So, make sure you stick around when the credits start to roll because you will not want to miss the scenes. My daughter and I screamed when we saw the last one.
