The War with Grandpa

The War with Grandpa Press Junket & My Favorite Moments!

Going Virtual with The War with Grandpa

(Happy Dance) Sometimes I love technology. Haha! While I love in-person interactions and miss them dearly right now technology has allowed me, and my small blog, opportunities that I possibly wouldn’t have gotten. I have been able to conduct more interviews for movies and bring that coverage to you! This time I get to talk/write to you about the new movie The War with Grandpa!

Recently the press junket for The War with Grandpa was held and I had the honor of being invited to attend. You might have heard of The War with Grandpa, but not as a movie. First, it was a book, but like a lot of movies, it has been adapted to the big screen. During the press junket, I got a chance to talk with some of the cast and the filmmakers of the movie and you can watch/listen to them all below. I have also listed some of my favorite moments during the interviews. The War with Grandpa is releasing in theaters on October 9, 2020!

Movie Synopsis

Sixth-grader Peter (Oakes Fegley) is pretty much your average kid-he likes gaming, hanging with his friends and his beloved pair of Air Jordans. But when his recently widowed grandfather Ed (Robert De Niro) moves in with Peter’s family, the boy is forced to give up his most prized possession of all, his bedroom. Unwilling to let such an injustice stand, Peter devises a series of increasingly elaborate pranks to drive out the interloper, but Grandpa Ed won’t go without a fight. Soon, the friendly combatants are engaged in an all-out war with side-splitting consequences.

Based on the award-winning book by Robert Kimmel Smith, The War with Grandpa is a hilarious family comedy featuring an all-star supporting cast: Christopher Walken, Uma Thurman, Rob Riggle, Cheech Marin, Laura Marano and Jane Seymour.

Laura Marano & Oakes Fegley

Our first interview was with Laura Marano who plays Mia, and Oakes Fegley who plays Peter. We talked about everything from filming to what the actor’s favorite pranks were from the movie. (Oakes loved the prank where all of the screws were taken out of his furniture.) My favorite moment of this interview was just getting to hear from Laura and Oakes about what they would like people to remember, or take away/learn from the film. Laura mentioned how conversation in a family is so important, and that family dynamics are all about support. I 100% agree! You can watch the interview below!

Peart Family – Tre, Marvin, Rosa

I am just going to come out and say it. Out of the three interviews that I was a part of the interview with the Peart family was my favorite. I love learning about filmmakers and the reasons why they want to make a film. With this interview, I had more than one favorite moment. My favorite moments were learning about Tre, why he wanted Robert De Niro in the film, learning he is the Guinness World record holder for being the youngest movie producer at 11 years old, and just witnessing how supportive his parents are.

Tre had to work hard to get The War with Grandpa made. He pitched his movie idea to his Dad, knew he wanted Robert De Niro to star in the movie (made it happen), and Tre worked to bring his dream to life. It was such a great interview, and I hope you watch it below.

Jane Seymour & Cheech Marin

The last interview of the day was with Jane Seymour and Cheech Marin. Both of these actors are iconic. So iconic you would think they would be recognizable in public no matter what, right? Haha! And we come to my favorite moment in their interview. Turns out while on location for one of the shopping scenes Jane was able to pass as a real employee for an electronics store! (Gasp!) When no one recognized her Jane felt she had nailed her role in the movie. (I am sorry Jane, but I would have recognized you instantly. Haha!) Jane and Cheech also talked about the dodge ball scene, and what made them want to do the movie. The full interview with Jane and Cheech is below.
