Birds of Prey Character Profile – Black Canary

Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)

Birds of Prey is coming to theaters on February 7th, and as I said in my Harley Quinn character profile I am so excited. (Like giddy with excitement and anticipation. Haha!) To prepare you for the Birds of Prey movie release I have teamed up with another amazing female entertainment writer, Angie from This Is The Motherhood, to bring you new posts on the Birds of Prey characters. Below you will find my character profile on Black Canary and here are links to character profiles for Huntress, Renee Montoya, and Harley Quinn!

After reading all of the character profiles which character are you most excited to see on the big screen? Tell me in the comments!
Black Canary

Who is Black Canary?

As with most comic book characters Black Canary/Dinah Lance has gone through a lot of changes over the years. First introduced in 1947, Black Canary, started out as a rough and tumble hand to hand combat specialist with no powers. Over the years and as her character progressed in the comics she became a metahuman master of martial arts with a sonic scream called the Canary Cry. (Her Canary cry can shatter objects, and can cause injuries.)

Black Canary is a founding member of the original Birds of Prey group and since the ’60s has been romantically linked to the Green Arrow. In the new Birds of Prey movie, Black Canary/Dinah Lance is played by Jurnee Smollett-Bell, and it looks like she will have her Canary cry and fighting abilities. I am very interested to see how they portray her character in Birds of Prey. In the comics, she is a heroine, but in the Birds of Prey trailer, she is seen singing in a nightclub run by one of the villains. (Eeek!)

Movie Synopsis

“You ever hear the one about the cop, the songbird, the psycho and the mafia princess? “Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)” is a twisted tale told by Harley herself, as only Harley can tell it. When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.”
