Two Words…

Anthony Mackie. Haha! That’s right. For those who love Anthony Mackie, and are waiting to see him in Falcon and the Winter Soldier like I am, then Outside the Wire is a movie that will help hold you over. Outside the Wire will be available to watch on Netflix starting January 15, 2021. Until then, here is my Outside the Wire spoiler-free movie review!

My Review

I will say I am slightly surprised by Outside the Wire. Going into the movie I thought it was going to be just your run of the mill action movie, but it’s not. The movie presents interesting situations and concepts that really make you think. I am one of those people who love to think and have conversations about robots and what they can and cannot do. (I mean I could go round and round with you about Asimov’s 3 laws of robotics.) That is one of the reasons I love Outside the Wire. Anthony Mackie does such an excellent job playing android officer Leo, and his character is so complex. (He is not your standard version of an android.)

I don’t think they even scratch the surface of what Leo’s (Anthony Mackie) character is/could be in the movie. (I hope they make a prequel movie.) Beyond Mackie’s character, Outside the Wire, discusses some hard topics. Such as the repercussions of removing the human element from war, drone warfare, and how sometimes the “peacekeepers” may not actually be helping at all. My only fault with the movie is I feel the ending could have been more thought out. The end seemed too easy of an ending, but I really enjoyed Outside the Wire. Damson Idris also stars as Harp and gives a good performance, but the movie is all Anthony Mackie. The action and fight choreography and Anthony Mackie are superb. Mackie makes every move come across as effortless. (Is it too much to ask to see him go up against Keanu Reeves sometime?!)

My Rating

I give Outside the Wire a B+. The movie is not for kids. (Rated R) There is A LOT of adult language. (I actually lost count there were so many cuss words. Haha!) Outside the Wire also stars, Enzo Cilenti as Miller, Emily Beecham as Sofiya, Michael Kelly as Eckhart, and Pilou Asbæk as Victor Koval.

If you watch Outside the Wire I would love to know your thoughts. Drop them in the comments!

Movie Synopsis

Set in the future, Harp (Damson Idris), a drone pilot, is sent into a deadly militarized zone where he finds himself working for Leo (Anthony Mackie), an android officer, tasked to locate a doomsday device before the insurgents do.
