Thunder Force Spoiler-Free Movie Review
Watch out now. There are two new superheroes in town! Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer star in Netflix’s new movie, Thunder Force. But does the movie bring the thunder or is it a dud? Out on Netflix now, here is my Thunder Force Spoiler-Free Movie Review.
My Thunder Force Spoiler- Free Movie Review
So, uh, Thunder Force. Haha! I was so stoked when the trailer for Thunder Force came out. Seeing Melissa McCarthy, Octavia Spencer, and Jason Bateman together in a movie sounded like a tour de force, but unfortunately, that is not what we got. I actually feel a little duped. Haha! The trailer was funny, but it is one of those instances where the trailer is better than the actual movie.
The Story/Writing
I think what made it worse is I love superhero stories, and the idea of 2 amazing regular women getting the chance to kick bad-guy butt was a huge story draw for me when it came to Thunder Force. But the writing and execution of the movie just aren’t there. The jokes, like the CGI, fall flat, and what I consider to be the funniest part of the movie is borderline funny/creepy. (And I am from the East Coast where we love Crab and Old Bay!)
The whole movie is predictable, and honestly, the Miscreant villain technically wasn’t more powerful than our heroines, but for some reason, it was hard for Lydia (Melissa McCarthy) and Emily (Octavia Spencer) to defeat him. (Why?! Why?!) I think I spent the majority of the movie shaking my head wondering what was going on and what happened. Not because I didn’t understand what was going on, but because I was wondering what the writers and directors were thinking when making the movie.
The Cast
The saddest part is the movie has so many amazing actors in it! (Argh!) How can you have a movie with Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman in it, and have subpar jokes for them to say? I just feel the writing of the movie did the actors a disservice because there was nothing wrong with the way the lines were delivered. It was the actual lines themselves that were the issue. But if I were to pick a standout for the movie it would have to be Jason Bateman as The Crab. He had some of the funniest lines of the movie, but that’s it!
My Rating
I really wanted Thunder Force to be good, but sometimes wishes just don’t come true. I would rate Thunder Force a C-. Also, I feel like I must warn people. Haha! The movie does contain scenes of individuals consuming “raw meat” and it is gag-worthy. (While I know in real life it isn’t real raw meat I still feel a little queasy just talking about it.) So, if you get a little uneasy with certain foods then just be aware.
If you watch Thunder Force please let me know what you think in the comments. Haha!
