DreamWorks The Bad Guys Movie Review

It’s good to be bad

I will fully admit when the trailer was released for DreamWorks The Bad Guys I was concerned it was going to be very similar to another movie that had been released in 2021. Also about animals that are looked at as scary. You can read about that movie HERE. I mean the movies even used the same song from Billie Eilish in their trailers. But, I was wrong and DreamWorks The Bad Guys is very different. (Thank goodness!) You can read my full DreamWorks The Bad Guys movie review below! DreamWorks The Bad Guys arrives in theaters on Friday, April 22, 2022.

The Bad Guys Review

Again, I am so glad that The Bad Guys ended up being differen’t then I thought, but unfortunately, for me, it just isn’t the hit it could have been. The movie has a great cast with Sam Rockwell as Mr. Wolf, Craig Robinson as Mr. Shark, and Awkwafina as Ms. Tarantula. (Just to name a few.) But these great actors and the story just weren’t enough. The movie relied heavily on Mr. Piranha and fart jokes. Which to be honest I love a good fart joke, but they were the only jokes that really made myself and my kids laugh. The story was also very perdictable. About 30 minutes into the movie my 6-year-old pretty much already knew how the movie was going to play out, who the bad guy was, and what his plan was.

The movie is not all bad though

Now, having said all that. The movie is still entertaining to watch, and interestingly enough has some fo the best animated car chases I think I have seen in a while. The moral of the movie is also great and it sparked a bunch of conversations with my kids about telling right from wrong, taking responsibility for your actions, and friendship. Another great thing about the movie is it’s animation. I love the animation of the movie. It is beautiful, a joy to watch, and the animation actually helps to elevate the movie. So, what would I rate DreamWorks The Bad Guys?

My Rating

DreamWorks The Bad Guy’s is entertaining, fun to watch, and the animation is beautiful. It’s unfortunate the movie wasn’t entertaining enough to keep my kids attention throughout the whole movie, but they did keep coming back to it. I just don’t think it is a movie my kids will ask to watch over and over again. So, overall I give DreamWorks The Bad Guys a C+.
