Greyhound Spoiler-Free Movie Review

Greyhound is out!

Originally slated to release in theaters on June 12, 2020 Greyhound was delayed and then moved to ApplyTV+. But do not fear because today is its release day on AppleTV+! (July 10, 2020) I have been looking forward to this movie, you can read my trailer reaction to it HERE. How does it stack up, and did it meet my expectations? Continue reading below for my Greyhound spoiler-free movie review!

Movie Synopsis

In the early days of WWII, an international convoy of 37 Allied ships, led by captain Ernest Krause (Tom Hanks) in his first command of a U.S. destroyer, crosses the treacherous North Atlantic while hotly pursued by wolf packs of Nazi U-boats.

Greyhound Spoiler-Free Movie Review

As I mentioned in my trailer reaction I love war movies and had an extensive WWII VHS movie collection growing up so I had high expectations to meet when going into the movie. Greyhound met all of my expectations. It brought back all the memories of me watching those old VHS movies over and over again. I highly enjoyed Greyhound. From start to finish I was enthralled and on the edge of my seat. Tom Hanks showed again why he is such an amazing actor and a national treasure.

Greyhound is 1.5 hours long and the majority of it plays out in the Atlantic with Tom Hanks, as Captain Ernest Krause, and his ship Greyhound battling German U-Boats (Wolfpacks.). The movie is an epic game of cat/mouse showing the grueling and devastating realities for ships during the Battle of The Atlantic. You get to see the inner workings of Captain Ernest Krause and the difficult decisions he is faced with. Tom Hanks was the perfect casting choice for this role, and Greyhound is a contender for the best war movie of 2020.

My Rating

I think if they had introduced characters for the German U-Boats the movie could have been slightly better and invoked more emotion from its audience, but I give Greyhound an A. Greyhound is rated PG-13, and is based on C S Forester book called “The Good Shepherd”. (Which I will definitely be checking out.)

How to Watch

As mentioned theaters are closed so Greyhound has been released on AppleTV+. You can sign up for a free 7-day trial, but it costs $4.99 a month afterward to stay with AppleTV+. If you purchase an Apple product it comes with 1 free year of AppleTV+. Let me know in the comments if you have AppleTV+ or have watched Greyhound and what you think!
