A New Generation
I am of the age that I had many My Little Pony dolls growing up, and I really wish I had kept them. Little did I know My Little Pony would still be around when I had kids! Haha! While I have questioned some of the My Little Pony shows that have been released over the years I have still stayed a fan, and I am glad because this new generation of ponies are AMAZING. My Little Pony: A New Generation hits Netflix on September 24, 2021. Here is my, My Little Pony: A New Generation Review! (Spoiler-free of course!)
My Little Pony: A New Generation Review
My Little Pony: A New Generation surprised me, and I was not prepared to like it as much as I did. It is a movie I could watch over, and over with my kids and not get tired of it. The movie seems to have everything. It’s funny, beautifully animated, has a great cast, catchy songs, and an important message. It is the best My Little Pony movie in my opinion. Here’s why.
The Cast
My Little Pony: A New Generation boasts an incredible cast. Vanessa Hudgens stars as Sunny, James Marsden as Hitch, Sofia Carson as Pipp, and Liza Koshy as Zipp. But it is Kimiko Glenn as Izzy and Ken Jeong as Sprout who are the standouts for me. Kimiko Glenn just brings such a bright and effervescent light to the character of Izzy. Her character stood out in every scene and delivered some of the funniest lines in the movie. Coming in a close second is Ken Jeong as Sprout. His character goes through a very fast and interesting progression throughout the movie, but Ken Jeong nails the role and makes it his own.
Animation and Music
The animation in My Little Pony: A New Generation is different from any previous My Little Pony movie, and it is spectacular. This is the first time the ponies have been in 3D, and the movie is just so bright and colorful. It really bring the My Little Pony world to life, and brings the audience even closer to the Ponies. The music and songs for the movie are also spectacular. There are a couple of bop’s in there. Gonna Be My Day and Glowin’ Up are just two of the songs that will have you on your feet dancing and singing along.
The Message
But beyond the cast, animation, and music the most important thing about My Little Pony: A New Generation is it’s message. My Little Pony has always been about friendship, acceptance, inclusion, and being kind to others, and A New Generation is no different. (The movie actually parallels alot of what is going on in the world currently.) In the movie the message of friendship, acceptance, inclusion, and kindness is presented in a way kids can understand. It is a great movie to use as a conversation/teaching tool with kids. So, how would I rate the movie?
My Rating and Parent’s guide
My Little Pony: A New Generation, while geared towards kids, is an entertaining and beautifully animated movie adults will love as well. (Especially if they are fans of My Little Pony.) The movie is full of magic, laughter, and friendship. It will have you up on your feet singing and dancing and is the perfect addition to the My Little Pony story. I give it a B+! Are there any scary parts? The movie is Rated PG and there are a couple of scenes that may be ever so slightly scary for very young kids. (At the beginning and near the end.) Faces changing from being happy to scary, and a little bit of peril.

My Little Pony: A New Generation Synopsis
The unimaginable has happened…Equestria has lost its magic! Earth Ponies, Unicorns, and Pegasi are no longer friends and now live separated by species. But idealistic Earth Pony Sunny (Vanessa Hudgens) is determined to find a way to bring enchantment and unity back to their world. Teaming up with open-hearted Unicorn Izzy (Kimiko Glenn), the pair travel to faraway lands where they encounter the likes of charismatic and brave Pegasi Pipp (Sofia Carson) and Zipp (Liza Koshy) and the ever-responsible fellow Earth Pony Hitch (James Marsden). Their mission is full of misadventures, but these new best friends each possess their own unique and special gifts that may be just what this ponyverse needs to restore magic and prove that even little ponies can make a big difference.
